Aussies ignorant of surf dangers :
"The Surf Life Saving Australia National Surf Safety Report, released today, showed more than 10,000 people had unwittingly ventured into dangerous conditions and needed to be rescued in 2005-2006."
I come back to parenting. You learn all these safety things as you grow up. Part of the problem is parents working and being out of the home for long hours. So safety stuff is assumed and actually not taught because children are no longer actually living with people where they will learn safety routines for BBQs , swimming , surfing, household procedures. You learn to protect yourself by living with adults not by being routinely institutionalised with them. We really have to look at the structures we have for nurturing. I think we are taking too much for granted and need to go back to basics.
