Coober Pedy

Is Coober Pedy the way to go ? I get this notion that there is real interest in bunkers because of the bush fires. Given last year we had numerous police raids of underground bunkers in the hills which were the new way of avoiding satellite discovery for hydroponic crops of the non endorsed nature, then I have my own concerns about the obsession with bunkers. I also have visions of people going through a fire , in bunkers and being oxygen starved and being like the people in Pompeii. That whole bunker thing has messed with my head something unreal. The thought that anyone is enthusiastic about being locked down in a bunker as the fires go over horrifies me...and yet, what are our options? And what, indeed are the alternatives? These Victorian bushfires are the new millennium bushfires and we have to deal with it. We have managed it all. We have been bloody brilliant at coping because we locked together and hauled hard. I am still astounded at how awesome Australians are when the chips are down. Our country does not lack courage nor a capacity to think on its feet. I shall be angry if anyone is criticised and I know there are things we could have done better. As it stands we managed something which was so extreme , which pushed our resources to their limit and for the whole time we managed emergency conditions in a logical fashion to get the best result we could under the circumstances. We are always critical of ourselves , though and maybe that's what keeps us strong. We never get a chance to have a big head. One thing we heard of was how people sheltered in their water tanks and survived. We also hurt how they didn't survive. What has captured our imagination is  the notion of bunkers. This all works on the theory the fires will pass quickly and the bunkers can withstand the unheard of heat. So yes, that's one for the scientists. Then I am thinking, by the time we have burnt the country down with all these bush fires and we have taken to bunkers...is the new millennium look for Australia that of Coober Pedy? Coober Pedy is in a class of its own. You have to see it to believe it and the people do live underground because of the heat. It is like being on another planet...In some repsects Coober Pedy may help us design a new look bush fire prone area and the locals may well have some good tips for managing extreme heat and conditions. Inbelieveable really. Just unbelievable.
