JOHN McCain's vice-presidential pick Sarah Palin has revealed that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, confirming some of the rumours that had been sweeping across the web.
It was a relief to see the news tonight and know that Americans have their heads screwed on with this one. They are as every bit over smear campaigns as we are. They are chockers with nasty , stupid talk in the media. It was fantastic to hear Barack Obama come out and defend this one, because he is good as score evener when he has to, but this one was way out of line in a country which touts equal opportunity. It was fantastic to hear normal Americans say things like , well, no one is perfect. There is nothing criminal in what is going on here. There is nothing horrible, immoral or miserable. Teenage girls get pregnant. Most of them have abortions these days, but this one hasn't and it is not up to us to judge her. A lot of people wouldn't be here if their teenage Mum's hadn't had them. I think America is where we are. They just want to live and be led. Not told what to think. Not scared and harassed...just living and being and doing...and finding out some politician's 17 year old is pregnant...just like theirs or their neighbour's or like they were when they were young. Sarah Palin will be judged for who she is....as will all the others. Smear campaigns are passé.
