Depleted fish stocks

AM - Nations meet to discuss depleted fish stocks:

"SARAH CLARKE: No one can escape the warning signs that are now there. The world's fish stocks have been dwindling for decades. A United Nations report says the number of fishing grounds considered to be 'fully exploited' has climbed to around 50 per cent over the last half century."

If this issue is sufficiently serious for the United Nations to discuss it , then I think we need to pay attention. As I have said before, we do need a world forum to discuss world issues now and the United Nations seems to be the only place we have, so we need to make sure it works. Perhaps it's my simplistic view, but I can't see why we don't leave ocean fishing alone for a while and use farmed fish. I know gastronomic purists will say that farmed fish and seafood is not the same in terms of taste and texture as "free range" fish and seafood. But if we run out of fish? I heard on a report that Queensland is running out of seafood because we can't get it. It is very silly of us to deplete ocean stock. Those whose livelihoods rely on fishing need to convert to raising fish and seafood. We are going to have to retrain . We are going to have to give up centuries of tradition and habit because right now the planet can't take anymore of our destructive behaviour. Most of us no longer chase our meat for dinner, well, we'll have to give up chasing fish for a while. It's about what we leave as our heritage and it's not looking too good because we can't seem to adapt our behaviours to the current conditions.
