Committee to investigate rise of homelessness : "Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has announced the Federal Government will establish a committee to find out why homelessness is on the rise."

I thoroughly approve for several reasons. We have to go out and get the facts. An issue like this brings out strong feelings, strong beliefs and prejudices. We need to have the facts. Some would believe homelessness is a choice and indeed, there may well be homeless people who have made that a lifestyle, philosophical choice. Some will believe that people make themselves homeless because of their choices. We have a lot of people on the street. A lot of them appear to be intelligent, capable, skilled and resilient.Some have totally lost all hope and health. A country like Australia oughtn't to have people on the street. We have enough food and money in this country for everyone to live comfortably. Those who would make that choice to be free wheeling independents away from the system generally live on the land and off the land. We have some amazing people who can fend for themselves, but they still need to be accounted for and looked out for in our society. It doesn't matter what I think and what my beliefs are about homelessness. I know we have children going to school from cars and that just should never happen. It's awful. We can't do anything until we know what has put people on the street . I look forward to reading the White Paper. I am glad , too, that politicians appear to be united on this issue because it is something we should all work on as a team...like climate change and conservation. We need to conserve our human resouces too.
