Fleas and Disease

PCTOnline.com :: Article :: Fleas and Disease:

"The most serious human disease transmitted by biting fleas is bubonic plague or the 'Black Death' of the Middle Ages. In India alone, this bacterial disease resulted in more than 7 million deaths from 1896 to 1911. The oriental rat flea, Xenopsylla cheopis (Rothschild) and X. brasiliensis (Baker), are the most important vectors of plague from rat to rat and from rat to humans"

Rats, squirrels in places like California and then sometimes cat, dog and human fleas can spread things like rickettsia, bubonic plague and murine typhus. They can irraitate some people more than others...and I guess we had better go on flea alert!!
