Australia softening over ASEAN treaty:

"Australia has consistently refused to join ASEAN nations in signing the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, a pact banning the use of violence to settle regional conflicts."

Don't just soften..downright melt! Enough lives are lost and damage is caused without supporting man made destruction, so when ASEAN countries wish to tender what I consider to be a 2005 approach..a new millennium approach, then for heaven's sake subscribe to it. No amount of wars and killing have improved things. The gratuitous loss of life is unnecessary. When I saw how hard we all hauled together as a world to help resolve the challenge thrown upon us by the tsunami, I can only say again we were far better, and more successful, as human beings when we worked together to forge a positive path through a hideous set of circumstances. Enough of the heroes and vilains. On with the co operation and collaboration...and then let us really see what kind of a world we can build.
