The Law vs Justice

Lawyer's action that of a 'coward' (29-04-2005):

This story of a lawyer who accidently hit a cyclist and then left him to die and the consequent fine and year's suspension , has us all a bit in a quandary. It means , by law, we can accidently nearly kill someone and leave them to die and we'll pay 3100 dollars in fines and get a year's suspension of our driver's licence. By law, we are required to render as much assistance as we are able...so we thought... even just ring an ambulance. I could not believe what Mike Rann was saying because he is always so calm, so rational, so careful in his speech. He still chose his words very carefully this time, certainly didn't mince them, and was perhaps saying what the wife and mother of two couldn't say. We are all so confused. We didn't think you could kill someone on the roads and get away with it. We didn't think you could leave them to die. I know deconstructivism and post modernism mean you take things on face value, and thereby test their possibilities in terms of meaning, and you apply the law as it appears to be. I think we are appalled and dumbfounded this is our law and it's a good job we found out.
