Earth Hour

"The primary reason we do it is because we want people to think, even if it is for an hour, what they can do to lower their carbon footprint, and ideally take that beyond the hour."
And it's nice to know it all started in Sydney a couple of years ago and now we have linked up around the world. It is as much about the masses having a quiet voice as anyhting else. It is about us linking up as a planet and saying we are prepared to do something about global warming...where's you effort? There is something really nice about it and I spent a lovely evening because , if nothing else, I realised overhead lighting is glaring and disruptive. Our lights are not relaxing and calming. So we are always under pressure. At work we had a commitment to Earth Hour but now we have been talking about whether we could make a day if it at work because offices are polluted. There are computers, toner cartridges, lights, phones, mobiles....everything. We are toally dependant on databases and electricity and that does not bode well. We know we have to change but we are thinking more and more people are getting sick with respiratory illnesses and headaches and we are wondering if we just relied on air and sunlight whether we might not feel better. So we are going to try having at least a morning on a regular basis where we do without all our equipment and lights. Just to see. We might be able to get the paperwork sorted because that is the biggest joke of the "paperless" world. We have more than ever since the advent of computers and it traps dust, it has to be filed, it creates weight to lift and if you store everything electronically, you cannot always access the Network or the internet. So it's all rubbish really. A totally unreliable world where you are expected to feel swamped and inadequate all the time.
