Irrigators talk

Irrigators talk at lower lakes - ABC News
"When we hear about you know 45 thousand gigs being pumped from one lake to another lake, and costing $6 million to do it, and we see what's happening with our system, it does actually make you say you know we've got to get our priorities a little bit," he said.

This is the best move ever. The most sensible and the most obvious. People who are being affected need to get together and talk and see for themselves. These are not stupid people. They have been working our land under tough conditions. They have been fighting for survival , all of them. To put them together and get them to see and hear for themselves is only going to be good because they are, infact, on common ground. It won't be easy. There is a lot at stake here and there has been so much stress and heartache. I am of the opinion, though, that Australians who get together and talk will always find better solutions. Sitting and thinking about it doesn't work for us. We put plans into place made up by those who are not doing the jobs and who don't know the conditions and it never works here. Put the hands on people in the driver's seat and you get emminently practical solutions which thinkers and planners can smooth out and facilitate. Of course it will be emotional and tough...they are talking emotional and tough stuff. Fantastic news.
