Swimming : "They included wearing face masks on aeroplanes, avoiding contact with public surfaces such as handrails and, it was reported, even refraining from kissing his wife, Candice Alley, in the immediate lead-up to competition."
And didn't his wife weep freely last night from the joy and relief of seeing grant win those heats so superbly? The big race is to come , but the relief that he was all right....more than all right, awesome , in fact, was a very touching moment for us to see. I must say the camera work and coverage of the Olympics has been great. Some of it is very artistic and inspirational, some of it is just technically very good and then there have been these sweet moments.Grant is always so serious when he is swimming. He becomes a force to be reckoned with because it is as much about his psychology as it is about his fitness. I am sure underneath that big guy is someone who is in awe of himself and the mind just plays its tricks when the pressure is on. He ought to be incredibly confident, but Grant Hackett is always cautious , careful and meticulous in his preparation and then afterwards he is so modest and matter of fact. What he did last night was stupendous and it is great to know he could have parents brimming with joy and excitement and a wife who was so deeply touched. this is a man who knows how to reach out and touch people. That in itself is powerful.
