Australia ready for 'opt out' organ donation

Australia ready for 'opt out' organ donation: "'Some community leaders are saying that, in fact, Australia is not ready for that yet, ' she said."

Ready or not ready completely misses the point. This is my body. It belongs to me and,in death, it belongs to my family. My body is not community property and there has been sufficient degradation in death whereby anyone can demand a copy of a death certificate. The lack of care and concern in some sectors is worrying. With this matter fresh on my mind I am all too well aware of how the community deals with what is essentially a personal and private matter deserving of the utmost consideration and respect. We are not bits to be traded. I have spoken with my family because I believe it is their decision and it will be what they can manage. No one has the right to overrule me or my family. We know how important organ donation is but it is our decision.
