Mobiles as 'addictive as smoking'

The Advertiser: Mobiles as 'addictive as smoking' :

"So much so, excessive mobile users were experiencing personal problems ranging from agitation if forced to turn them off, to low self-esteem if they didn't receive calls or texts, she said.

'Like substance abuse, excessive use of mobile phones can lead to personal problems,' said Ms James, from the Queensland University of Technology's School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations."

Addiction is an illness and it's not the thing which is the problem it's the personality. People can be addicited to anything or become addicted to anything. It's a compulsion which takes you over so that you cannot think and behave properly. For some people it might only last a couple of hours, like when you go from shop to shop to get that thing you suddenly decided you have to have NOW. Addiction needs to be treated because the addictive behaviour needs to be broken. Depending on what you are addicted to you can become very self destructive and other people destructive. I am glad to see this article because it's a sign we are recognising that addiction is bringing us down and that some things allow us to be more addictive than others. The more we look at it, the more we research and manage it, the better we'll be at preventing it.
