Bills rise under climate plan

Bills rise under climate plan: "Welfare groups are calling for Government assurances that disadvantaged households will be protected from the impact of higher power bills."

We seem to have made a dog's dinner out of climate change initiatives. There have been plenty of reports and recommendations. It is clear the sorts of things which can be done now. Putting a price on things so that people are reminded not to waste them is not a bad idea but it does advantage the affluent who can squander at will, so it's not really solving that aspect of conservation. It can affect those on little or no income. It can have a big impact when electricity and petrol go up. So what are we doing to encourage people to think and live smartly? My sister's house is warmer than mine because of the direction it faces and the fact is is not overshadowed by a massive gum tree. I have no power over this gum tree because it grows in a neighbour's garden. It's a superb tree but it drops branches and debris and cuts light. It houses so many birds. So what can I do? I think we need to keep looking at what measures can be taken now and how we can operate within our communities. No use waiting until 2012 and we can approach it very logically because we do have information which we can follow.
