Self Help Myths

Seven Biggest Self Help Myths: "In 2006, Australians forked out more than $50 million on 'health and hygiene' and 'psychology' titles, according to Nielsen BookScan, not to mention the millions spent on DVDs, motivational seminars and life coaches."

Tends to suggest we feel insecure. Tends to suggest we need help. Tends to suggest we think there's an answer out there and tends to suggest our lifestyle is severely lacking in the qualities which nurture us! This article analyses and quantifies the trend pretty well. We are being trained to be externals rather than internals. We are trained byour nanny society that we are not responsible, that it's not our fault, that we are not masters of our own destiny and then.....there is someone or something that can help us. The quick fix. In 10 days we can make it all happen. Revolution and not evolution. There are some good self help books out there and there is a lot of rubbish. No one thing has the answer. It's about developing an approach, a lifestyle which is self sustaining and nurturing. We are part of a whole. We are connected but while there is this insistence we are powerless except for this magical approach or leader, and the constant message we are so stupid we cannot even think to know how we can be in control...well, it's all about the individual getting a bigger bang for their buck out of us. So... think, people, think. Surround yourself with the things and people who make you feel well.
