AdelaideNow... Sad end for koalas:
"In the past two months, the RSPCA has rescued four koalas from pools in the eastern suburbs.
'With the most severe drought on record, koalas are finding their way into the suburbs in search of water,' RSPCA spokeswoman Aimee McKay said yesterday."
I got rid of my pool. Partly because it took a lot of time and partly because the weather had changed and we were not using it enough. I was forever rescuing cats, mice, birds. Animals and pools do not mix, not even if you cover it. It is not surprising the koalas are doing it hard because they live here and they will need water. We could help them by creating some spots for water but it's also a good reason to think about how we animal proof pools in the same way we child proof them. We need to give it a bit more thought and I am sure we'll come up with a good idea.
