UN asks countries to help US close Guantanamo.

UN asks countries to help US close Guantanamo. :

"'While the United States Government has legal responsibility for the detainees in Guantanamo Bay, we urge the international community to collaborate actively, constructively and urgently with the US authorities with a view to ensuring that the closure of Guantanamo Bay can indeed take place as soon as possible,' the group said in a statement."

What a good idea, putting on our collective thinking caps and actually resolving a problem. You can't just leave people rotting either because you do not care about them or because you cannot think what to do with them. This was our problem with Baxter. We haven't resolved everything but we have fronted up and tried to make a better effort to get the picture clear and straight. Not dealing with tough problems is not dealing with them. It's a sign you do not have any idea. Dealing with things means you actually know what you are doing because it can be seen you know. No one wants disgusting people running around the community. No one. I can think of some people here who have done some horrendous things to little children and many peole would be happy to see them rot if we know for certain they have done awful things to little children. We still have to understand the mentality though because it's the best way to protect ourselves, so other people are trying to work on understanding them. It is no use avoiding it. We have got to look at the people who are really doing harm and one, work out how we create people like that in our society and two, figure out how we shall manage them. The aim is to stop this behaviour. But before all this has happened there has to be a proper and open risk assessment. We are going to have to be creative in our approach and we are going to have to think it out. Each case needs to be sorted out as we did with Baxter when we finally got the guts to confront it and listen to all points of view. As it stands Guantanomo Bay acts as an inflammatory agent rather than a deterrant.
