Scientist urges switch to thorium.

Scientist urges switch to thorium. :

"Dr Hashemi-Nezhad says thorium has all of the benefits of uranium as a nuclear fuel but none of the drawbacks.

It can generate power without emitting greenhouse gases and it can be used to incinerate the world's stockpiles of plutonium."

If this is the case, why haven't we learned about thorium before and why has it not even entered the debate? It is not as perfect as it might be thought and there appear to be some drawbacks...but what information is there and how useful would that information be right now? The reactive waste is a problem but less so than uranium. We need to consider this properly. Who is looking at world energy resourcing and its requirements and options? I daresay we are considering it as a planet problem since we all live here, we have been using up the fossil fuels and we have made a mess of our home. You make the mess, you clean up the mess!! Where's our social responsibility. So there is an article here where someone is talking some sort of sense for us but already there's an opposite view. At some stage we have to consider our options and follow the line of least resistance and least damage with the best outcomes for everyone. Or are we not able to co operate on a planet level? There have been plenty of indicators that we can.
