We have a pretty zany and dedicated bunch of scientists out there who won recognition in the Ig Noble prize evening at a US gala ceremony at Harvard University. Our own Associate Professor Mike Tyler's team from the University of Adelaide won the biology prize for studying frog smells. Professor John Mainstone and the late Professor Thomas Parnell fom Queensland University won the Ig Nobel physics prize for watching tar drip in a 76 year long experiment. A Japanese scientist won a prize for photographing and analysing every meal he ate for 34 years. US scientists won prizes for studying people swimming in water and syrup. And the Germans won a prize for calclating the pressure inside penguins when they defecate. All in all, some amazing prize winners. I wonder what the non prize winners did???
