PM rejects calls for Vanstone's sacking.:
"Prime Minister John Howard has strongly defended the decision not to sack Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone in the wake of scathing report into her department."
The bungling has been non stop and of the most upsetting kind. It is very good of Mr. Howard to defend his minister, but the Department of Immigration has made one considerable stuff up after another and the cost in human pain has been enormous. It is the one department which is not at all as we are and is the polar opposite of our values. Ministers and politicians have resigned for a lot less. The number of cases and the number of reports and then, the damage and damages will speak for themselves. Mr. Howard may not want her sacked, but he might wish to consider some kind of performance management strategy because we are looking both cruel and stupid. As a key portfolio for our country's protection we have no need to be seen as so cruelly incompetent.
