Court clears PlayStation modification for copied games. :
"Lawyers for Sony argued that Mr Stevens' modifications were illegal, but the High Court ruled that the devices used by Sony to stop copied games being played did not meet the legislative definition of 'technological protection measures' under the Copyright Act."
I cannot believe it. I take the point of the law and I'd love to read more details of this case. Given we have had so much hoo-ha about piracy ...even at the cinema there was a huge ad about piracy being stealing, I'd say we seem to be a bit at odds. Still, Mr. Stevens went to court and he won the case. My own personal beef is when I buy a piece of pricey software and I can only load it on one computer. It's pretty hard when you have to register programmes online but you actually want to run the software on a computer which is not online. Then you have to make the phone calls, blah, blah and it's a bugga when the computer crashes!! I suspect the chip Mr. Steven's had been putting in was also to do with games from other zones not being playable in another zone. It's ridiculous when you buy DVDs which won't run here and then you have to buy a multizone DVD player. That is nonsense.
