Dole threat

Dole threat raises school attendance.:

"Under the trial, which began two months ago, parents and guardians whose children fail to attend classes at the Halls Creek District High School stand to lose their welfare payments."

It's a pity parents have to be threatened like this and then they will then put pressure on their children to attend school. Kids need to go to school in our society. They have a lot to learn and they make some good friends and, in a controlled environment, they learn to manage various personalities. I hated school. I did very well, but I felt way too restricted and I hated sitting all day. My Dad was shocked when I asked him if we could burn all my school work when I had finished my last day of school. I had learned a lot and I appreciated my teachers had given me a training whcih has served me well, but school was not my cup of tea. I was happier at uni. I didn't ever think to avoid school and my parents would have had plenty to say if I had. I guess going to school is a rite of passage . Kids who get involved with school work and school sports and what have you are basically pretty happy and have a chance to grow up purposefully. We'd all love to stay home and get paid for it!! I hate it when people are threatened and then the status quo is suddenly maintained. It teaches governments bad lessons! I remember a few years back France did a similar thing with parents whose children kept being vandals and breaking the law. They, too, suspended child support allowances. I didn't actually hear if it had helped. Kids need boundaries. When they want to do as they wish it is often anti social. You wouldn't mind so much if they were out there learning, doing something good or useful. It's often not the case, sad to say.
