Dear diary, what a media circus I've created

The Australian: Dear diary, what a media circus I've created :

"Peter Costello sent a frisson of fear through newspaper and publishing circles on Tuesday when he gleefully cited a section of Latham's diary. There'd been no security breach; the Treasurer was quoting from a short publishing blurb."

We always have to play heroes and villains. Goodies and baddies. How old are we?? A frisson of fear? How can a book send a "frisson of fear" through newspapers and publishing. Yes, yes, there is all this confidentiality because of the done deals. Honestly, no one would think we were capable of rational thought and analytical appraisal. It's a book. I bet it's nowhere near as far reaching and detailed as Pricess Ashraf Pahlavi's Time for Truth. As the sister of the Shah of Iran she knows how to densely pack a book full of detail and information. Is she right ? Is she wrong? She is someone who needed to write what she wrote. As is Mark Latham. Whether you react, not react, take it seriously, contextualise it, ridicule it is all up to you. That some people believe we are bound to have one solid reaction is very odd indeed. The group response? Sheep or people? People write books. People write all sorts of books and they can be scandalous, intriguing, conspiratorial, absorbing, informative. Anything, really. It's their book and their point of view. At the time , Mark Latham was put forward as the new labour leader and no one forgave him because he lost that election. Did he lose the election or was it not able to be won? In any case, from that point onwards he was a catastrophe, a punch bag, he was lampooned, harassed and hounded. He never got to say or do anything without being called a failure. One sided . Predigested thinking. By the time you have gone through all of that you have a lot of emotional baggage , a lot of resentment and are ill. Some politicians have died, some have become seriously ill by the crosses they have had to bear in our current politcal climate. If the books are catharsis, so be it. If they are enlightening , so be it. Mark Latham's books will be what it is... a book! He was never allowed to leave the scene with dignity as politicians used to be able to. Just recently we have seen Liberal politicians having to take desperate measures for fear they would be crucified on our current political climate. We are past that stage. I thought we were until I heard the lambasting and lampooning by the Liberals in parliament today. It was very school boy. Year 9, bad school. That kind of buffoonery is silly at that level. Nice to know the mental age of our politicians. No other political party has so viciously attacked some of the unfortunate Liberal politicians of recent weeks. Other politicians have been more thoughtful and mature in their approach. So, yes, I'll read the book and I may of may not like it, but I thank Mr. Latham for showing me how old my politicians are. I don't actually want school kids running my country who are salivating at the thought of some juicy goss.
