Whales back in the ocean

Officials hope to shed light on whale stranding. 03/06/2005. ABC News Online:

"The Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) says an autopsy on the dead whale has revealed it had abdominal bruising and an unusually high number of parasites in its intestinal tract."

The dead whale was very sick and that is the reason the other whales had come into shore. They look after each other apparently. Not a good way to keep the species surviving if they are prepared to beach themselves to protect one of their own. But animals have their own reasons , I guess. There were a thousand people helping in WA in the freezing conditions and it is fantastic that all their help got so many whales back in the ocean safe and well. That was a massive achievement. We are actually getting quite good at saving whales because we have been having to do it fairly frequently. We hate seeing animals in trouble, especially sea creatures, and so we are highly motivated to get good at the rescue missions. This one demonstrates just how well we can learn because the people in WA saved all but the sick whales. Onya , guys!
