Wildlife Wanderers

Yesterday's story of the injured kangaroo bouncing in onto the bed of a man in Canberra had everyone alive and animated with stories of close encounters of the wild life kind. Stories of weird noises from the fire which ended up being blackbirds, weird noises from the roof which ended up being birds or possums. The best two were the one one about the people who arrived home from holidays to a home which was trashed and wallpaper which was ripped off the wall...and then tell tale possum poo everywhere and then the one of the scratching at the French doors during the night. The doors were rattling and then there was awful scratching. During the night it was disturbing to say the least. We listened enthralled. Luckily the people could turn the  light on in another part of the house to see who was at the French doors....a great big koala trying to get in! We moved from that to narrow escapes from falling gum tree branches...one of our hazards!! My best story on that was the lady I used to work with who went out to her car and leaned over to get something out of her glovebox in the car. Had she remained seated upright in the driver's seat , she would have had head injuries or worse. A gum tree branch decided to break off and fall onto her car. In the bush , this is not a problem that gum trees drop their branches. In the suburbs it can be a real hazard. So what's the answer? Cut all the old gum trees down? We dare not do that, but they  do drop branches and it's worse in dry conditions .
