Aussies on the front line fighting Californian blazes

Aussies on the front line fighting Californian blazes : "It is the fourth time Australian firefighters have made the journey, but the size of the front this year is unprecedented."

Sadly, we know all about bush fires. It hits us hard and we know how it feels. It also means we have developed the skills and psychology for fighting them. Our fire fighters are a breed of their own and they are well respected. It's a tough job. Someone has to do it. Fortunately in this day and age we can get people around the world quickly and it's fantastic to know that we have actually flown over to America to help them fight their fires. That's the thing. These firefighters just have to go on and on. It's gruelling, dangerous and exhausting work so you need a fighting force which can stay on top of the job and which can be replenished. It also means you can keep the morale high and the mental acuity there. They have to be on the ball physically and mentally. These are people who do not lack courage and we need to develop those strengths in others. The best way to do that is to share our strengths internationally. This is a good way to deal with big problems like bush fires. It puts something positive and human into what are really devastating circumstances and it genuinely builds strong relationships.
