World Bank calls for urgent action on food prices

World Bank calls for urgent action on food prices - World : "One of the main factors behind the surge in prices is the increased use of crops for biofuels as an alternative energy source. Almost all of the rise in global corn production from 2004 to 2007 went to biofuels in the United States."

You wouldn't want people going hungry as a side effect of our efforts to do something about global warming , and yes, there was a lot of hype about biofuels and then a lot of pressure to produce them. The economic situation in Asia and then the drought in Australia have driven up food prices. Our drought has affected our food and our capacity to produce food in large quantities. It is yet another thing we need to resolve and negotiate as a planet.
