Drinking age could be lifted to 21

Drinking age could be lifted to 21: "'There might be a two year discussion period that would give a very strong message to people that either we change the environment ourselves or the government will do it,' Prof Currie said."
We have seen what has happened with taking all the boundaries out. We have dispensed with traditions and barriers to behaviour and we have also dispensed with the holding pens notion of growing up...so that people have a chance to be in a safe zone until they are old enough to know better. Most Australians in their 20s are affable, friendly, pretty sensible and yes, there are the extremes, but the twenty somethings are pretty easy going and happy. They like work, they party but they are pretty safe about it. What we have are insane teenagers. teenagers who do as they please, go where they want, behave as they wish and don't seem to have anything which holds them in place. We do need to create some barriers for these people who are growing up because too many of them have lost their lives, too many of them are destructive of others and their property and too many of them are costing us all too much. I don't think it would do any harm to have a good look at statistics for 12 to 19 year olds and get a bit of a picture about behaviour at home, in school , on the street. What kind of picture do we have? I think they are out of control and those who are not are being overlooked and taken for granted. It's not about taking away freedom, it's about creating safety zones and a learning environment which adds to their characters.
