Inefficient air routes 'exact carbon cost'

Inefficient air routes 'exact carbon cost': "'You will all be aware that our industry is taking a beating in the environmental debate,' Mr Bisignani said to a conference in Holland.

'Our critics may have lost perspective.

'But they are absolutely correct in demanding more efficiency.'"

Flying is what we do these days and it is one of the great achievements of the last century. I don't think we'd want all aircraft grounded...or would we? How would it benefit us? We need to look at the things which are contributing to global warming in the cold light to day. We need to look at the benefit to us as a planet and if we value them, then yes, we are now challenged to make them more efficient. Considering we pioneered flight at the turn of the last century I see no reason why we cannot pioneer carbon efficiency at the turn of this. If nothing else we can be very creative and flexible in our thinking and we need the challenges to make us achieve our best.
