We're not reality TV stars, say dancers : "The oldest of the bunch, 29-year-old Sydneysider Kate Wormald, said most would go back to their normal lives after the show."
I think the show has shown so far that the dancers' lives are anything but normal. Some of them had survived considerable adversity and were emotionally vulnerable but had enormously strong spirits. They are dancers. They may not have all been brilliant. They may not have all been inspirational but they all loved dance. We got to see there are so many good dancers out there and I ended up watching the show because I was taken with how good so many of them were. Such life. Those who were let go from the top 100 are now out there and will strengthen and enrich our dance and performing arts in Australia. It had taken a back seat to military clap trap so it is nice to see the Arts take a step forward again because it is uplifting and hopefully more and better funding will be accessible to these artists. The top 20 will no doubt bring us much joy and we need to be stirred and moved again because until recently we have just been shaken. Every day another thing. Dance will help heal and inspire us and dancers offer us so much more than visual entertainment. Their love of dance brings us joy and it really is time to give up being a joyless society. I am looking forward to the show!
