Airport security

The Australian: Ex-crims to face sack in airport plan :

"THOUSANDS of workers with criminal convictions could be removed from the nation's airports and ports under a security crackdown to be considered by cabinet today."

This is considered to be a knee jerk reaction by the government to the information about baggage tampering. More and more stories have emerged from various sources and as I said , I did have a combination lock go missing between Sydney and Adelaide. Clearly we need to do something about it because people are worrying and it will affect what has been a good experience in Australia..travelling interstate and overseas. I do think we need to keep a level head. I also believe, as I said in my previous post, that any community will put up with what it is prepared to accept. Some people are worried we are dealing with drug dealers and some very difficult poeple. For this reason they have not reacted. They are reacting now and change will occur:

New chief to head airport security

Airport security lax: baggage handlers' union

As for sacking everyone with a criminal record, then I think that needs to be thought through more clearly. Having done the crime and the time, people are supposed to have the chance to be free and lead a good life. I do no think it will help to victimise those who are trying to rehabilitate and walk a better path. It means people will never get a chance. I think we need to look at what we are prepared to accept and then redress the matter logically. Sometimes you need to set a thief to catch a thief and that might be part of the answer; using the expertise of people to solve what has become an invidious situation for us because we were afraid to act. Clearly now we have the courage, so let's go about it wisely.
