Olympics 'threat to water supply': "The Hebei Daily reported that 33,000 sq km (12,740 sq miles) of farmland was now affected by drought, while a quarter of a million residents were facing problems with drinking water."
It would take the shine off the Olympics if we knew people were going through hardship and suffering just for us to watch the Olympics and have it as an event. I cannot see anyone liking that idea or sitting comfortably with it. Perhaps we can work together to solve the logistics of water supply to the Beijing Olympics so that farmers are not put under stress and so that Chinese people continue to have adequate supplies of drinking water.
