Woolies chief slams Trade Practices Act changes

Woolies chief slams Trade Practices Act changes : "'It was created without consultation and brought in, it seems, to appease a small minority who refuse to look at all the facts and instead are driving personal agendas,' he said."

Woolworths is one of our top 10 companies and so the chief is probably worth listening to. The article doesn't really dig deep nor give us a real chance to understand what the issues are. I can say that since the government has been fiddlefaddling with IR laws and workplace practice we are no longer clear about who we are and what we are doing. Before employers and employees knew where the boundaries were and what to do when the wheels fell off. There was no animosity. There was negotiation, discussion and consideration. Nor were there different ways of implementing workplace agreements. It was all clear and now we are pretty confused , disgruntled and dismayed. We had workplace practices which were sound. It doesn't mean we cannot change anything. We do need to be flexible and move with the times simplistically speaking. We need to go through the process again of identifying the issues, looking at the requirements for 2007 and beyond and then look to the needs of empolyers and employees. It is not going to work if people feel thwarted and impeded, no matter who they are.
