Govt facing High Court challenge over NT intervention

Govt facing High Court challenge over NT intervention : "The Maningrida community east of Darwin has confirmed it is taking legal action but is not commenting any further at this stage."

It is often the small communities which show the most courage because they are tightly knit and know what they want. This whole intervention has been a a valuable exercise since it has made us question more directly what our values are and what we think about how we, as a nation, treat our indigenous people. Until now the indigenous people have been acted upon, talked about but now we have a community which will stand for what it believes in and use our systems to address the issues. No one wants the violence and abuse . No one denies more help needs to be given. No one will stop aid, support, the things the communities need to live happier, better lives. The consultation has been lacking. You wouldn't stomp into a white community here and do that, so our indigenous community has been treated differently and some think that is okay, but they do not stop those same abuses happening in white areas. Whoever takes our country into the future needs to walk alongside out indigenous people and needs to talk with them...and apply our laws to everyone. We do not accept violence. We do not accept abuse..and that applies to everyone.
