Rudd in his element in talks with Chinese President: "Mr Rudd earlier denied that a strong alliance with China will hamper any relationship Australia has with the US."
Indeed. Why should it? As a country we have had a long and colourful association with both countries and they have both contributed to our history as have other countries. I do not think there is a limit to the number of friends one can have nor do I believe there are favourites. Since we are a massive island continent made up of many nations then I think it's valid and important to have viable and worthwhile ties with many nations or we become far too insular and parochial. Major breakthrough to have a politician speaking the language of another country and I am so glad the Chinese President has had the good grace to reward him for his efforts. We have an excellent military facilty for teaching languages and I think all federal politicians need to get with the programme and learn a language of a country with which we have strong ties . It can only help and show we are serious about developing genuine ties.
