Students fight for grammar

Students fight for grammar :

"A BAND of high school students fearing for the quality of their education has joined the fight against new teaching methods that dictate that students cannot be failed for poor spelling and grammar."

It's an embarrassment for any firm, company or business to put out anything which has poor linguistic control and poor grammar. These students in the article are aware, at least , they have to compete against other students who do have sound linguistic skills. Nobody has to be ordinary and everyone has a write to know how their own language works. Having seen a young one in her final year at uni become part of a group project which was written up by another person who had no control of the English language...I felt sorry anyone had to work in a group and have an incompetent write the report of their work and I could not believe the writer would get a degree at the end of the year. All we are doing is making ourselves look silly because we do not value competence. If education is so worthless then I think we need to look at what we have arrived at and feel we have the right to be proud about it. Bit off when the kids care and their country doesn't! Children from overseas at least get a good grounding in their own language and why should our children feel stupid when lined up against them? Our children are not stupid.

"Simon said the student union had been in consultation with public sector unions and university guilds, while funding was being sought for a formal launch. A draft constitution has already been written by the politically motivated Year 11 student, with the next step being to garner support from other schools. "We really want to depoliticise the education system," he said."

I think we need to do what Simon says. This boy is going to go a long way.
