Squadron apologises for friendly fire incident

Scotsman.com News - UK - US squadron apologises for friendlyfire incident: "He added: '

While nothing we can do will alleviate the grief of the Hull family, we can only promise that our personnel will continue to receive the very best training, in an effort to minimise the potential for similar occurrences in the future.'"

Well, that's a start and a pretty honourable approach to it. It's decent and honest and to make a public statement helps bring some dignity to it. Changing the past is not possible. Hiding behind protocol and defence is not appropriate because a family lost one of their own and it was in military circumstances and I guess it goes with the territory, but to put it right in a human way is what is important for the family and it also helps the Idaho National Guard keep its sense of honour. Within this there is also a very personal apology and statement of regret from Lieutenant Tony Vincelli. As I said yesterday, this wouldn't happen if we didn't have weapons, but that is not my decision to make. I think it's better to make personal amends to a friend and this certainly gets the ball rolling and may help to ease the pain of Lance Corporal Hull's family.
