Adopt UK plan to ease GP shortage:

"'They are trained to go through to formally examine at the same level and standards as a medical student has been trained to take the patient's history, do a full clinical examination, diagnostics and investigations,' he said"

If we have the phone in health line with the nurse and then we have a medical practitioner, then doctors can be better used and they will be dealing with the serious cases. A lot of GP work is advisory, consultative and screening. This can all be performed by a medical practitioner and a doctor can then be in charge of serious illnesses and cases. Dare I say we had a similar system with school dental services where dental workers were doing the routine checks, oral hygiene and fillings but a dentist was always called in and available for serious consultation. As a mother I found this a really helpful service. Filtering the health system is cost effective but it also stops the frustration of highly qualified people being used for routine matters. No, go for it, let's do it!
