Drought plants

Drought plants keep Victoria blooming: "'Australian plants are under-utilised within the Australian home garden context and again, this is one of the challenges that we are trying to get out to the public,' Horticulture manager, Jason Davenport said."

There are examples in different states of how to beat the drought. It's tough. You lose plants. You spend hours developing the garden and watch it crisp. You watch trees stress, the crispy brown. We need to remind ourselves constantly of what works and we need to keep careful lists of plants which thrive and survive. There are plants which do well. Our roses have never looked better. My South American whatever it is is in full bloom and has added a wonderful splash of purple colour. The natives are doing well and the leavy grassy things. The agapanthus are good too. The big ones survive better than the small ones. My garden looks odd because some parts are growing well and other parts are dry and crispy. We have all been talking at work about what we have lost...both in terms of plants and the garden as a place to enjoy and relax and watering as a great stress buster. it is now adding to our burdens and we are thinking long and hard about it. We just need to keep the ideas and lists public because even when the weather changes our practices will be sounder.
