Judge to decide on drug link to gang rape

Judge to decide on drug link to gang rape :

"Eken, 28, claims he was suffering a psychotic episode which caused him to become violent, following a six-month daily habit of using ice and a predisposition to mental illness."

I am certain that Justice Anthony Puckeridge will arrive at his decision in a well informed and considered manner. I cannot stop myself from saying that no matter what the reason , the provocation, the influence, the reality for the girl is REAL. Her truth and her reality. Whether it was real or not in the head of the man, for whatever reason, then that in no way alters or diminishes her reality, what she suffered and what was visited upon her. We have a few cases at the moment where drugs or mental illness are effecting the behaviour of individuals in an extreme way so theat they are a real danger to others. Gaol will not repair or help mental illness and the sorts of drugs available will constantly cause horrific crimes and we do have to work on this as a community. There is no simple , easy fix to this. It's all very complex. But the reality for the victims is in no way changed by how or what brought the person to the stage they would create a living hell for another. That is the bit which is being blurred, I think and it must not be. But dealing with these sorts of criminals is going to mean we have to think very carefully.
