Bread shops put heat on supermarkets

AdelaideNow... Bread shops put heat on supermarkets:

"“Many of our stores also have instore bakeries, where the bread is made fresh each day, and has both a “baked-on” and a “use-by” date on each loaf,” the spokesman said."

A lot of us just want simple bread. Bread made of bread. Some supermarkets have become adventurous and have supplied some decent bread to us baked on the premises. Around here , you have to get in early. There is never any of the fresh baked bread left over. But bakers have also become popular because we want home baked bread that is just nice, simple bread. Oh yes, we like our herb and fruit ones and we'll try the pumpkin and sun dried ones, but the trend is towards lumps of bread, baguette, ciabbata, pita bread and some of the simple turkish breads. We like to top or stuff our bread with filling. The better the bread, the yummier it tastes and you can tell the difference. I look forward to someone baking brioche!! Scones have also made a big come back because they are simple, easy and fresh.
