Man hit by Kombi at crossing

Man hit by Kombi at crossing :

"The man was crossing the road when he was struck by a Kombi van at about 7.10pm (AEST) yesterday on Adelaide Street, police said."

The exact circumstances are not clear about how the pedestrain was hit when he crossed the road. Here in Adelaide, you take your life into your hands now when you try and cross the street in town. It has become normal practice for pedestrians to be ignored when they want to cross the roads in town. My sister, who has no need to go into town regularly these days, was pulled back from the kerb by an older guy who just told her to stand well back because the cars just raced around the corners and frequently came up onto the kerbs. It has put her off town!! My daughter is in town all the time and said the drivers are very self absorbed when it comes to driving in town. My own experiences haven't been that bad, but I am cautious these days when I cross roads and it has never been my habit to stand close to the kerb in town. I have seens kids on bicycles around the place just go through red lights. They obviously don't think the road rules apply to bikes and would probably be quite shocked to find out they have to stop like anyone else. That thinking is obviously transfering to driving.
