Scoop: Phone Taps in US and Newsroom Spying in Germany:
"Yesterday, ABC News posted a blog about a senior federal law enforcement official telling the broadcaster that the US government is tracking the phone numbers called by their reporters in an effort to root out confidential sources. It has not yet been confirmed whether these actions are directly linked to the exposure last week of how the National Security Agency (NSA) database in America is tracking the phone calls of hundreds of millions of Americans."
The American Government is doing it to track down terrorists and the German government is doing it to get the spies out of German media and who else is doing it and why are ordinary people's conversations so fascinating?? If you are trying to track down reporter sources then what is that all about and if you are listening to all the daily crap on the phone line in the hope you'll catch a terrorist...doesn't say much for their tactics does it? I really think we have lost it or this is all wobbly reporting probably from suspect sources! Why would you publicise that you are monitoring everyone? Defeats the purpose doesn't it? Whatever happened to stealth and clever clogs thinking?
