Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's broadband

Australian IT - Broadband vanishes into thin-air (Chris Jenkins) :

"ANYONE who uses wireless broadband internet access at home risks having their personal details stolen by hackers who can easily locate people using the networks."

Do we actually know what we are doing? As fast as we invent things we seem to get ourselves into the situation where so many people take advantage. Were people always this opportunistic? Did we always have a problem with people ripping each other off? Oh yes, I know, we have to move with the times and adjust as we go along. Wifi is our latest headache. People can hack into our wifi systems and use it for their convenience. Now we have to create laws so we can charge people whom we have to identify first. Wouldn't it be better to make things secure before we market them?
