Patients receive bladders grown in the lab

Patients receive bladders grown in the lab :

"The tissue was created by taking a small sample of bladder from a patient and growing muscle and bladder cells in a nutrient bath. The cells were then encouraged to grow over a biodegradable bladder-shaped scaffold made of collagen. After a further two months, the full organ had formed, ready for transplantation."

This is amazing stuff. Growing replacement parts and transplanting them. I hope the patients who have received the home grown bladders will be okay. Given they are so young there is probably a good chance of their coping with all of this. It is a great step forward if we can repair congenital defects and the effects of cancer on organs. Great news. I hope we hear more of these people.
