The boss is a jerk

The Australian: The boss is a jerk: survey :

"And torment from the boss from hell forced more than half of them to quit their jobs in search of greener pastures."

The results of this survey are extremely interesting and in all fairness, maybe the bosses need to do an employee survey. Bottom line? A boss is in a very powerful position and it is very difficult to sensibly manage an incompetent, cruel, vindictive, unfair or whatever boss. Think about that. Once they are in charge anyone who is their responsiblility relies on them for information, inservice, direction, vision, references, support. When the boss is incompetent they are in a positon to really abuse and cause distress because as a superior they may be there to talk to you or not. If they do not give you the information or shrug off their responsibilities then you really are disadvantaged and it is incredibly unpleasant. A good boss adds to you, motivates you, generates a positive atmophere and direction whereby you meet your own goals and the company's. If the survey is correct and there are that many slack bosses, time for a change...because a boss really is in a position of privilege. Even if you do complain they can say you got it all wrong and that's when you know you have a bad boss. With a good boss there are no complaints. It's never your word against theirs and you never have this feeling that you are incompetent all of the time. You are always engaged in open discussions.
