iownmydvds.org: "The Australia-US Free Trade Agreement requires new laws which prevent 'circumvention of technological protection measures'. Some companies want the government to go further and ban any access that the copyright owner doesn't allow. This means the movie companies can decide how, when and where you watch your movies. Worse still, this law would apply to more than just DVDs: games, software and music are all included under the 'technological' umbrella. It'll be criminal for anyone to sell you a DVD player which isn't 'authorised' by the movie industry."

I got this vis Slashdot and it's pretty bad when you have to read stuff from another country to know what is going on in your own. Like I had to watch to German news to know why we were getting dust storms (deforestation, what else?)Slashdot was saying we were bracing for this. Don't think so. To quote Big Brother I think it is coming in under the radar. I used to be informed. Now I'm the ignorant public. There is a petition on this site if you are interested. The legislation is bonkers.
