The Australian: Rains bring renewal for ailing Murray [December 06, 2005]:
"'Fish stocks are looking quite good; it's been terrific for cockles, mullet and flounder,' Mr Hera-Singh said yesterday. The reappearance of more than 100,000 black-winged stilts to the region was also a welcome sign."
we were ashamed our River Murray had reached the dubious status of being the slowest moving river in the world. The Murray is our life blood but it is also a big tourist and recreational attraction which can't be beat. The Murray has a feelof it s own. The Coorong is beautiful...fly ridden at times, but it is beautiful country side and the water birds are spectacular. It is good to know nature has given us a helping hand because we have been following all our guidelines for saving the Murray. We are good at following restorative action if we are told what to do. It's good to hear a report we are getting a return on our vigilance. The Murray is great for one of those Lazy Daisy daytrips or getaways. It has a remarkably calming effect.
