Methanol Mobiles

Methanol fuel cells:

"Toshiba and Hitachi both displayed prototypes of mobile handsets powered by methanol which, when mixed with water, reacts with air via a plastic membrane and produces electricity."

The gadget show in Tokya was showing mobiles powered by methanol, made from methane. Does this mean we can recycle all that excess methane we keep recreating into mobile phones of the future? The fuel cells are clean energy and could run many of our smaller gadgets like the MP3 players. The down side at this point is that you cannot take methanol onboard aircraft!! Let's hope the Japanese get a real lead on the supersonic jet so the travellers won't be living in a gadget free zone. I mean, people might have to talk to one another for the long trip! Jokes aside, they are going to have to find a solution for the ban on aircraft. That really is a disadvantage at this stage.
