"THE Federal Government has defended its childcare benefit scheme, after Labor said figures showed more than 40,000 families had debts under the system.
The figures showed 43,408 families in 2004 had to repay money to the childcare assistance scheme, and the number of families saddled with the debts had soared from 990 in 2001."

Tell me about it. Since the new improved system my tax has been a nightmare. Even with the help of an accountant and voluntary tax payments I still can't get it right. Until 3 years ago I could manage my tax affairs. Then it all went wrong because of the child allowances and tax chncges and has been up the creek ever since. Again, this year, I shall have to make my own adjustments through payroll. It's crazy. I shall be glad to go part time and not have dependent children. I pity those at the beginning of the cycle.
